Prepare for the 2026 TOEFL iBT

Comprehensive TOEFL preparation that explains each task, develops the underlying skills, and provides original practice with audio, transcripts, models, and review.

TOEFL 2026

The test at a glance

Plan for approximately two hours to complete the TOEFL iBT. The four sections have the following approximate base times:

Reading 30minutes
Listening 29minutes
Speaking 8minutes
Writing 23minutes

These times exclude directions. Timing and question counts can vary as the test adapts. There are no scheduled breaks.

How the adaptive modules work

Reading and Listening each have two modules. Your performance in the first determines the difficulty of the second. The test adapts between modules, rather than after every question. Speaking and Writing follow a fixed sequence of tasks.

What changed in the scores

Since January 21, 2026, each section and the overall result use a 1–6 scale in half-point steps. The overall score is the average of the four section scores, rounded to the nearest half point.

During the transition

Previously, sections used 0–30 and the total used 0–120. During the two-year transition after January 2026, reports also include a comparable 0–120 overall score.

The 0–5 speaking-response rubrics explained in the task guides assess individual answers; they are not the reported section scale.
