What’s in a lesson

Each lesson follows the same format for consistency to aid the learning experience.

1Vocabulary

Seven words, each with a part of speech, a plain definition, an example from ordinary life, two synonyms, and a pronunciation button.

consistent adjective — staying the same over time, without unexplained variation.
Her consistent practice, rather than any single lesson, explained the progress.
steady · regular
2Idioms

Two idioms in the same form — a night owl, to burn the midnight oil.

3The reading

An original passage of 400–500 words in three or four titled sections, with full audio. Written for the level, not simplified from somewhere else.

4Grammar Focus

One grammar point the passage already demonstrates — the form, when it applies, then two to four numbered uses with at least two examples each.

5Discuss

Five open questions that ask you to interpret and judge rather than recall, then a summary and a link to the next lesson.

A course, not a blog

One grammar point per lesson

Each lesson teaches a single point that its subject naturally demonstrates. Each grammar point is chosen to generally fit the level, but there is some overlap. Work through the grammatical structures by browsing through them in our B1–C2 lessons.
